Explore Victoria Lines - East to West!
We’re taking on a 19km hike from Fort Madliena to Fomm ir-Riħ. We shall be crossing the island east to west along the historic Victoria Lines.

We’re taking on a 19km hike from Fort Madliena to Fomm ir-Riħ. We shall be crossing the island east to west along the historic Victoria Lines.
Expect rough terrain, valleys, climbs, and incredible views - the perfect challenge for adventure lovers!
What you can expect:
Traverse the width of Malta
The Victoria Lines stretch across the width of Malta, tracing a natural fault line and passing by historic British fortifications. This scenic trail offers amazing views, quiet paths, and a unique blend of nature and history.
Trail Overview
Covering around 19km with around 400 m elevation gain, the hike takes 4-5 hours. It passes by forts, valleys, and villages - perfect for active hikers who enjoy cultural landmarks and scenic views.
Come prepared!
Terrain varies from rocky valleys to exposed ridgelines. Wear hiking or trail shoes and bring some water and snacks. This is a very rewarding walk across Malta’s countryside.
Kindly note that there are no shops on the route, so it's important to come prepared!

START LOCATION
The hike will start at 11 am at the following location: Bahar ic-Caghaq, near Tony's Ice Cream (Google maps link 🔗)
🚗PARKING: This location should enable easy parking for all. Please make sure you are at the location a few minutes before the start!
FINISH LOCATION + TRANSPORT BACK TO THE START
The hike will end at Bahrija (Google maps link 🔗)
Since this is a point-to-point hike, group transport will be provided back to the start! Simply choose your correct ticket ;)

We have a lot of ground to cover, so we will try to stick to a schedule:
11:00: START
12:30: Top of the World (~4km)
14:00: Ġnien l-Għarusa tal-Mosta (~10km)
15:30: Binġemma (~15km)
17:00/17:30: FINISH: Kunċizzjoni Chapel (~18km)
18:00/18:15: Arrival by transport back to the start point
To do this, we need to sustain a good pace - our experienced hiking leaders will be there to lead small groups of people at different paces; our main aim will be for all the group to complete this hike, however, if certain groups are moving slower, it will be at the hiking leader's discretion to end the hike earlier.
It's a good idea to have the route handy:
The route will pass by some rough terrain and a good number of uphills. We suggest packing the following:
- Grippy hiking or trail shoes,
- A headlamp or torch is a good idea, just in case,
- Light lunch, snacks and enough water for the hike (we will not be passing near any shops, so at least 2l of water per person is recommended).
